I had a discussion with one of my clients about the importance of being fully present in the moment after a divorce. It sounds simple enough, doesn't it? Just being attentive and engaged. However, in reality, it's not always easy to achieve.
We talked about the significance of practicing presence, not only in our professional lives but also in our personal ones. For instance, when we're at work, whether it's in a meeting or meeting with a client, we tend to be fully present because we have a vested interest in the outcome. We want to excel, to secure that contract, to make a positive impression.
But what about our personal lives? Especially amidst something as challenging as a divorce, being present becomes equally crucial, if not more so. Our children may need us more than ever during such times. It's about actively listening to them, being there for them emotionally, and showing genuine interest in their lives.
Practicing presence requires intentionality. It means setting aside dedicated time for ourselves, just as we do for work or other commitments. This could be a quiet moment in the morning to reflect on our goals for the day, or simply to check in with ourselves and our emotions.
As we cultivate this habit of being present, both with ourselves and with others, we begin to trust ourselves more. We find joy in these moments of connection and clarity. We no longer feel the need to constantly distract ourselves or escape from our own thoughts.
So, let's commit to being present, not just going through the motions but truly engaging with the world around us. Whether it's in our professional endeavors, our relationships, or with ourselves, presence holds the key to deeper fulfillment and success.
Here's to embracing presence and reclaiming our sense of self.
